Every machine in the sequence — what it does, why you need it, and how they connect. Supplied by Samrat Machine Tools, Ludhiana since 1990.
A complete nut bolt production line follows a fixed sequence. Each machine feeds into the next. Missing any step means outsourcing that operation — which reduces your margins.
MS (mild steel) rods arrive rusty and imperfect in diameter. The wire drawing machine cleans the rod, pickles it in acid to remove rust, washes it and draws it through a series of dies to the exact diameter required for bolt production. This ensures the cold heading machine receives perfectly sized, clean wire every time.
The heart of bolt production. The cold heading machine takes the drawn wire, cuts it to the required length, and forms the bolt head in one or two strokes — without heat. Pneumatic clutch type machines (as supplied by Samrat Machine Tools) are faster, safer and need less maintenance than friction clutch types. Available in single-stroke and double-stroke configurations for different head styles.
After cold heading, the bolt head is round. The trimming machine cuts it to the hexagonal (or other) shape with precision. Available in semi-automatic and fully automatic versions. Fully automatic trimmers with conveyor feed significantly increase throughput and reduce operator dependency. Essential for any plant producing standard hex bolts.
Creates the thread on the bolt shank by rolling (not cutting) — this produces stronger threads than cut threading because it compresses the steel grain rather than removing material. Available in fully automatic and semi-automatic configurations with pneumatic clutch systems. Can be fitted with conveyor and vibrator for continuous automated feeding. This is often the bottleneck machine in production — invest in a high-speed model.
For bolts longer than approximately 100mm, standard cold heading machines need a long-length attachment. This conveyor-based extension guides long bolts through the heading and threading process without jamming or misalignment. Required if your product range includes anchor bolts, foundation bolts or long hex bolts.
If your plant produces nuts as well as bolts, the nut former is a dedicated machine that forms hex nut blanks at high speed from wire or rod stock. High-speed nut formers can produce thousands of blanks per hour. Available as standalone machines or integrated into a nut production line with tapping machines.
Cuts the internal threads inside nut blanks produced by the nut former. Multi-spindle tapping machines can process several nuts simultaneously, dramatically increasing output. The tapping machine is paired with a die of the required thread size — you'll need dies for each nut size you produce.
For producing high-tensile or large-size nuts that cannot be cold-formed, the hot nut header heats the raw material before forming. Required for nut sizes above M24 or high-tensile Grade 8 and above. Not needed for standard M6–M20 hex nuts which are cold-formed.
For plants supplying pre-assembled nut-bolt sets, this machine automatically threads the nut onto the bolt and can pack them into bags or boxes. Adds significant value for customers who want ready-to-use fastener sets. Can increase revenue per kilogram sold substantially.
High-speed multi-station (2, 3, 4 or 5 station) bolt formers combine heading and trimming in one machine for very high output rates. Suitable for plants targeting large-volume commodity bolt production where speed is critical. Typically requires higher investment but delivers lower cost-per-piece.
